EDEN PROJECT

The Eden Project is the
world's largest greenhouse and this is no idle claim. This fact can be
checked in the Guinness Book of Records; Eden has two of them with a third
in the planning stage. This superb and must see attraction is only about a
45 minute drive from Palmers Lodge. |

The North
Devon Coast which abounds with interesting and somewhat unique coastal
attractions. The North Devon village of Clovelly (shown here on the
right) is probably one of the most picturesque Villages in the area. It is
a "must see" attraction and the Visitor Centre at the top of the Village
is full of the History of the Village. There are other areas of North
Devon which are also well within easy travelling distance of Palmers
Lodge.
The town
of Bideford with its history of Boat & Ship building situated on the tidal
estuary of the Taw & Torridge River provides a lovely area for walking and
with many picturesque areas. There is also an area of wetlands which
affords the opportunity to Bird Watch for those that are interested.
The
Quayside offers trips to Lundy Island during the Summer Months
(April to the end of
October), the supply and passenger ship, the MS
Oldenburg, carries day visitors across from
Bideford. The trip was voted boat trip of the
year in 2003. During the crossing passengers
can enjoy breathtaking views of the North Devon
coast.
Winter
time between November and the end of March. A helicopter service
operating from Hartland Point on Mondays and Fridays at 12 noon allows
visitors to reach the Island in time for lunch. The exhilarating flight
provides spectacular views of Lundy and North Devon. |

The picturesque Fishing
Village of Clovelly is little more than hours drive away from Palmers
Lodge. The centre of this old Fishing Village is not accessible by the
modern motor car. The main street is all cobbles and although there is a
Land Rover Service to take you from the car park at the top to the very
bottom of the village you need to be fairly ambulant to visit the centre
of the Village. The shops' deliveries are made mainly by Donkey Sleds
The Village of Hartland is the
next village along the coast from Clovelly travelling west towards Bude.
Again this is an old fishing village with links in bygone days to
smugglers. |
