| Golf
There are two excellent Golf Courses within 4
miles of Palmers Lodge. There are other courses, including links courses,
not too far distant but they are too numerous to list fully here. Details
can be provided on request.
The closest Golf
Course is Launceston Golf Club set upon the high land which overlooks the
Valley of the River Ottery on the one side and the Hills of Bodmin Moor on
the other.
The other Golf
Course is at Trethorne which has been developed originally as a
diversification project for the proprietors. It also has a children's
adventure playground on the site with the opportunity to see farm animals
too. |
Lydford Gorge

Just south of the centre of Lydford, at the bottom of the hill that
acted as part of King Alfred's defences of the
Saxon town is a stone bridge over the Lyd, a river that flows fast and
southwards from the hills of Dartmoor. Immediately below the
bridge the river falls sharply down into the deep and beautiful, tree-lined
ravine which is
Lydford Gorge.

The area boasts excellent fishing Course, Sea
& River. The fishing beats of the Launceston Area are very popular and
comprise of some of the Tamar beats as well as the smaller rivers such as
the Ottery, Lyhner and the Inny to name just a few. Fishing day or weekly
tickets can be arranged for guests as an extra charge. There are also a
number of Trout Fisheries in the area none of which are too far to travel. |
Castle Drogo

A 20th century castle,
built of granite, to a design by Sir Edward Lutyens. As it sits on a high
moorland outcrop, there are fine views over Dartmoor. Being built for a self
made man. Julius Drewe, it 's interior is sumptuous, with details like
elaborate bathrooms. This is

The beaches of North Cornwall and parts of
North Devon provide excellent surfing for both the inexperienced and the
experienced surfer. If you have never surfed before there are beaches,
Bude & Widemouth,
where instruction is available. Newquay's Fistral Beach is probably the most
well known surfing centre is just under 45 miles away but can be reached in
just under an hour. |
Cotehele House

Cotehele House is a well
preserved, and little altered, Tudor manor house in the east of Cornwall and
on the banks of the River Tamar. Cotehele has a series of formal gardens
near the house. Plus a richly planted valley garden, with a medieval
dovecote and stewpond, a Victorian summerhouse and an 18th century tower

Walking & Cycling
There are many areas for walking & cycling, such as "The Granite Way",
"Camel Trail" & "Tarka Trail" within just a few miles. Bodmin Moor is
just a short drive away and the mystical beauty of Dartmoor can be reached
within a 30 minute drive.

There are many interesting walks across Dartmoor providing exhilarating
views from all parts of the High Ground. The narrow rivulets running down
into larger river beds provide spectacular views of rugged open countryside.
The area abounds with Towns that have links with the moor for a variety of
reasons. markets for Cattle & Sheep are held regularly in Okehampton &
Tavistock. The latter being the birthplace of Sir Francis Drake |
Trelissick Gardens

| The
Trelissick estate stands at the head of the estuary of the River
Fal. Here a great stretch of deep water runs far inland with
smaller creeks and inlets branching off on either side. Wooded
slopes lead down to the water with oaks and beeches overhanging
the mudflats of the tidal creeks. The King Harry Ferry below
Trelissick is the only connection across the water to the
Roseland peninsular on the other side of the estuary. This is

Departing from Okehampton
Station, the 'Dartmoor Pony' climbs for 2 miles through scenic Devon
countryside, past the ruins of medieval Okehampton Castle, through Estrayer
Park tunnel, past open meadows (in which you may see a real Dartmoor Pony)
finally running alongside the fascinating workings of Meldon stone quarry to
Meldon Viaduct station in the Dartmoor National Park. On arrival at Meldon,
why not break your journey and take time to enjoy the beautiful Dartmoor
countryside? Go for a stroll across Meldon Viaduct, the largest structure of
its kind remaining in the UK. |

Roadford
Lake is also an area where there are excellent walks, cycling, some
bird hides and of course fishing..
Canoeing and Wind Surfing are available on most of the South West Lakes
Water in the area. The closest being Roadford Lake which is
approximately 8 miles.
